Export a chat from WhatsApp

    Open WhatsApp and the chat you want to save

    iPhone: tap the name at the top → Export Chat → Attach Media

    Android: ⋮ → More → Export chat → Include media

    Save it: iPhone Save to Files; Android Drive or Files
    Android may save the chat as a .txt plus photo files. In the file picker here, long-press to select the .txt and all the photos together.

Questions

Is it private?

Yes. The PDF is created inside your browser; nothing is uploaded. Load the page, turn off Wi‑Fi, and it still works.

Are photos included?

Yes, if you export with media (“Attach Media” on iPhone, “Include media” on Android). Photos appear inside the PDF; photos, videos, voice notes and files are also saved as original files. If Android saved the chat as a .txt with the photos beside it, add them together.

Does it work for group chats?

Yes. Each person’s name is shown above their messages.

Why does it ask which name is me?

WhatsApp’s export lists everyone by name but doesn’t say which one is you. Pick your name so your messages sit on the right, like on your phone.

Are all my messages included?

Everything in the exported file is. WhatsApp itself limits one export (its help page mentions up to 10,000 recent messages with media, or 40,000 without).

Will a court accept it?

Many people use these PDFs as a dated record of a conversation. Times are shown as your phone wrote them. Whether a court accepts it is up to the court; your lawyer can advise you.

How do I open the download on my phone?

The export is a .zip file. iPhone: Files › Downloads › tap the .zip, a folder appears, tap a PDF. Android: Files › Downloads › tap the .zip › Extract. If it came in several parts, do this for each part.
